The Rape of Persephone

You gaze upon me
Yearning, hungering starving to consume me
I can feed you, preserve you, nurture you
I am what you want but cannot have
My skin is thicker than it ought to be
Fortified, protecting what gives me life and would save yours
You marvel at me, contemplating how to break me
Your nails can barely scratch me
I can’t be taken in the normal ways
To have me, to have anything, you must let go
Make room for me
You bare your teeth, your mouth waters to taste me
Salivary enzymes prepare to break me
Down
Gastric juices churn, ready to dissolve me
Intestinal villi prepare to absorb me
Into you
You tear into me, rip me open, spill my insides
Tear rip spill
Tear rip spill
Peeling my skin away, revealing the meat of me
You bleed me, feed on me
Bleed and feed
Bleed and feed
Repeating the process
Devouring me
Souring me
Sullying me
Leaving behind an empty shell and undeniable reality
My body is become your body
My pain is your pain
I exist as a memory in your mind
Taunting you
Haunting you
Guilting you
Wilting you
My body you took to nourish you will curse you
I am the first pomegranate to trap you
In Hell
