You & I- a sestina

Clouds race across the Autumn sky;
Orange and pink play in our sight.
We’re at the end of You & I.
As the Sun sets into Night,
And dark’ning Shadows heavy lie
The stars twinkle into light.

The Spring will bring it all to light,
Last year’s love ‘twixt You & I,
Forgotten in the purpled Night,
Lost among the cold gray sky.
For Winter’s trudging into sight
To tempt us to cheat and lie.

December snows tell us the lie
The world’s in eternal Night.
Clouds of black and grey blight the sky
And the Sun has lost its light.
And what becomes of You & I,
Lost in shadows without sight?

Winter to March, and what a sight!
A beacon blazes the sky.
The Spring is purged of damask Night
The dark recants the cruel lie.
But when our own truths come to light,
What becomes of You & I?

This cannot last, this You & I;
It wanes with the Summer’s light.
We tricked Us with a pretty lie.
“Us” is at the fringe of sight
Like the Sun and Moon in the sky.
Together, separate, Day, Night.

And as our love falls into Night,
And twinkling stars fill the sky
You‘re  Autumn‘s fair Sun, golden light,
Winter’s cold, shadowed Moon, I.
Out of reach to the other’s sight,
‘Til Spring melts snows where they lie.

Light falls on us where’er we lie
Gray sky, blue or purpled Night
To sight what comes of You & I.
